That flu. [25 Apr 2009|12:17pm]
If any of you are missing Kaylee, she's fine. She was a little under the weather, like so many of you, but I think she'll be back to herself soon. She's missed a few days of work, too, so if you've been to the Serenity, you would have noticed a drop in the level of food service. Ahem.

As for my work, it is as it always is. Nobody at the garage seemed to be hit by the flu, which is good, because we seem to be pretty busy. Had a few bikes through this week, which I love - it's a bit of a specialty of mine, for all the obvious reasons. Seems like there's a very high proportion of bikes to cars in this town. Can't complain about that.

There's not much I know about romance (obviously), so my reaction to my wife being sick was to buy her something that would have her going outside. Looking back, I'm not sure why I thought that was logical, exactly. We're now the proud owners of a particularly powerful telescope, and it almost goes without saying that we both love it. When I was younger, I had a fleeting want to be an astronaut - that dream was set aside, along with my want to be a pilot, when my eyesight started to deteriorate. I've still got a fascination with space, and it's something that Kaylee shares.

In fact, it's a clear night tonight. We might have to spend some time in the back yard.

This week has been better than the last couple. And not only because Kaylee finally decided that I might actually be onto something with this online network. Work's been better; we're getting back to what was normal before the blizzard. And though I'm still concerned with the people who went missing, life has to go on.

My head's still bad - though Kaylee's massages help. Her food helps more than a little, too, but that could just be distraction. She and I went for a ride out to the lake last night after she got off work - you can't fault a girl who knows her way around your motorcycle, even if she does insist that I should let her drive. The day she lets me into her kitchen, I'll consider it. (Not that I exactly want to cook. It's not one of my stronger suits. It's just that marriage is based on compromise, or, if I have to give something up, you'd better believe she does, too.) It was good. Actually, last night was generally good - I didn't mind waiting around for her shift to finish. The people working at the Serenity are always interesting to talk to, and I get along well with most of them.

Working on fixing up one of our storm drains today - I didn't realize that it had been damaged in the storm until last night. It looks like the day's going to be fine for some outside work. I'm sure I'll get through it.

It's been another extremely long week. Work's finally returned to normal, so that's something, and my bike seems to have forgiven me for the cold. She's running sweet as she ever has been.

In news of the less bright kind, my headaches are back again. Last time I visited the doctor when this was happening - and whatever he gave me, my head absolutely cleared up for at least a week. And now it's been slowly getting worse again. Just this incredible tension. It feels like my brain's swollen. I realize that sounds like an extreme exaggeration, but there you have it.

It's strange how mild the weather is again. The snow's mostly all melted, and everything's back to normal. Such an extreme weather pattern.

Work. [08 Mar 2009|09:48am]
It's actually been a difficult week. My boss decided that as well as mechanics we're now some sort of automobile search-and-rescue service. Most of the week has been spent going out to find cars that were trapped in the snowdrifts. And so most of my week has been spent with frozen, soaking wet jeans and numb fingers.

I went for a long ride today - the first since the snow. As soon as you get a mile or so out of town it's incredibly tranquil. There's still a lot of snow around - not the easiest conditions to ride in, but definitely worth the reward. Feeling like you're the only person on the planet. There's really nothing like it.

I'm in complete agreeance with everyone asking about the missing ten people. I can't believe we haven't heard. I also can't believe that ten people can just disappear off the face of this town. That's the bad thing about living somewhere with such a low crime rate, I suppose. When something does happen, it hits harder.

Post-snow life. [26 Feb 2009|06:01pm]
Call me a boy scout, but I was actually prepared for the snow. We had enough warnings, people. There was no excuse for not having firewood, sufficient food, alternate light and cooking sources, or being caught out in it. And no, I don't know where I got an instinct for coping with snow - but it comes naturally. Mom, Dad and my sister all survived as well, though at least one of those was apparently miffed at not having company for the ordeal.

I hope the missing people are found, of course. Does anyone else know any of them? Jane Green looks unbelievably familiar, but I can't place where I know her from. Even checked at work today. The guys all think I'm insane. She's definitely not a client. I hope they're all found, regardless of whether I know them or not.

Hope you all kept safe.

I love the end of the week. [07 Feb 2009|06:14pm]
I'm the first to claim that I'm a workaholic, but I have to admit that I'm glad for the end of the week, this week. We've had a busy one. One of the other mechanics in town - Blight's, out in East Harmony - closed down last weekend, and we got more business from that than we expected. Not exactly something I'd complain about, even if some of the guys at work are. Still, it'll be nice to have time this weekend - even if it just to unwind.

This network has already proven to be interesting. Without it, I wouldn't have gone to that party at the bookstore last Friday. I've also found a new place to drink, and kindled a few friendships - which anyone will tell you is unusual for me. It's good, though. How else would I befriend my wife's new boss without him realizing it.

Anyone got big plans for the weekend?

first. [28 Jan 2009|01:56pm]
I'm another one of those people new to this network - that'll teach me to check my email more often. I only got the note about this a few days ago.

For those of you who I haven't met around town, I'm Scott Summers, and I work at Hanson's Automechanics in the middle of town. Basically, if you've broken down at some point then I've probably worked on your car. Yes. That's my claim to fame. Most nights I tend to go for a couple of drinks with the other men I work with, so if you know my face, it is quite likely you've seen me doing so. Other than that I keep to my own apartment a lot!

This whole network looks interesting - I can't decide if it makes Harmony seem smaller or larger, but it's certainly interesting. It'll be good to interact with you all.
